Titan is the largest satellite of Saturn (diameter 5150 km ). It is the only satellite in the solar system to possess a dense atmosphere, saturated with non-transparent clouds reaching 200 km altitude that conceals the body surface.
Titan is a body completely cooled, containing a large proportion of water, its average density do not rise above 1.9 g/cm3.
Its atmosphere is composed mainly of nitrogen and contains about 1% of methane. The orange colour of the clouds comes from the
oil complex. The surface temperature would be -180ºC; methane can exist in gas, liquid and solid. The atmospheric pressure is
one and half larger than the earth.
In Greek mythology, the Titans were a race of powerful deities that ruled during the legendary Golden Age. Their role as Elder Gods that were overthrown by a present race of younger gods, the Olympians, was a Greek borrowing from the Ancient Near East.
